Learning and Additional Needs Centre (LAN Provision)

Learning and Additional Centre Brochure

Welcome to Nightingale Class

“Where everyone is kind and caring and has a can-do attitude.”

Nightingale class is a Specialist Centre at Walsh C of E Junior School. It offers quality provision for up to 14 children with learning and additional needs (LAN) within a mainstream setting.

A multi-sensory approach is widely used, enabling all children to access the curriculum whatever their preferred learning style. The small number of children allows for a high level of individual support and ensures that each child’s progress can be assessed and evaluated closely. The curriculum can then be adapted to suit the individual needs of the children.

Nightingale Class is located right in the centre of the school and the children are included in whole school, year group and mainstream class activities as much as possible but always with their individual needs in mind.

Nightingale Class shares the ethos and aims of the school, the information in our brochure must be read in conjunction with the main school prospectus.

Admissions Policy

All children who are considered for a place in a Specialist Centre for children with Learning and Additional Needs such as Nightingale Class must have:

  • An Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP).

  • Needs identified as learning difficulties (LD) and additional needs.

Admission would normally follow suggestions made at an annual review and paperwork being submitted to a local authority panel meeting.

Parents are very welcome to visit at any time if Specialist Centre provision is suggested.
